Claas introduced the Jaguar 695 SL and MEGA series for the 1987/88 season as a new generation of high-performing self-propelled forage harvesters. The Farming Simulator 25 version costs $60,000, puts out 340 hp and travels at up to 25 kph, with capacities of 550 L and 80 L on board.
The most striking feature of the SL family was the cab, which gave the driver a far more user-friendly working environment. The engines fitted to these machines ranged from 235 kW (316 hp) up to 305 kW (410 hp).
The V cutting cylinders use staggered bisected knives, smoothing out the flow of forage and reducing the clamping forces in the accelerator. Cylinder rotation speed and knife count were both raised to move more crop through the machine, and attachments for whole plant silage and ground ear maize arrived alongside them.
Two headers come with the harvester. The Claas PU300 grass pickup costs $12,000, works 3.0 m wide and runs at 14 kph, while the 6 Row Corn Header costs $16,000, covers 5.3 m and works at 10 kph, so grass and maize silage are both covered from the first purchase.
